An Interview With Isabella Patricio Owner Of The Brigadeiro Shop San Diego

I love sweets! When I'm having a bad day a piece of chocolate can boost my mood. So when Isabella Patricio messaged me asking if I would like to try her Brigadeiro's (pronounced Bree-go-day-ros) I responded quickly with a YES. What's a brigadeiro I thought? They certainly looked like truffles to me. But I felt like they were different. So I had to interview Isabella to get all the details on Brigadeiro's and owning her own business. Talk about inspiring! Who else dreams of owning their own business one day?

Isabella tell me, how did you get into the Brigadeiro business?

The Brigadeiro is rooted in Brazilian culture, since the beginning of our lives. We are always accompanied by these delicious sweets. For every party, birthday, wedding, holiday and any family reunion or with friends, we always enjoy this unique and incredible treat. Since I was a teenager, I always used to do my own Brigadeiros, and everybody loved them and used to say “Oh these are so delicious, you could open a Brigadeiro store some day.”

Now since moving to San Diego for my Husband’s work, it was finally time to pursue one of my dreams and start my own business.

What makes a Brigadeiro different than a truffle?

Truffles are flavored with a base made with chocolate and table cream(Media crema), their dough does not need to be cooked, they are usually rolled in an irregular shape and wrapped by grated chocolate or cocoa. As the Brigadieros have a base of condensed milk, butter and chocolate powder, and the dough needs to be cooked, wrapped in chocolate sprinkles, and formed into a round shape.

How long does it take you to make them?

I spend 30 minutes to make them, and more 15 minutes to roll them in to small balls and get them ready to sell!

Do you have a favorite flavor?

My favorites are the Classic Chocolate and Oreo! But all of them are tasty and delicious each one with their own singularity and delicious unique taste. So it is an experience taste them all.

They go great with a mug of coffee or hot chocolate!

Any advice for others who want to start their own business?

Love what you do and persist with your goals. Always reinvent yourself and constantly pursue to improve and learn new things. Always pursue the customers happiness and satisfaction. Do something you love and never give up.

Thank you Isabella for providing some insight into your delicious Brigadeiros business! I loved all of the flavors myself, but I think my favorite flavor was the Red Velvet and Classic Chocolate. So good! With the holidays just around the corner these tasty treats would make an awesome gift for anyone on your list. Plus by ordering from Isabella you know you are supporting a local small business! Check her out on Instagram here:
