One of The Best Places To Dine At In Downtown San Diego

When visiting the Gaslamp Quarter in downtown San Diego, you can’t pass up a visit to Barleymash. They’re known for their indulgent eats like lobster mac & cheese and juicy burgers. It’s right in the central hub of the Gaslamp Quarter which makes it the perfect pit stop before a baseball game or a more low key date night. They’re also large enough to accommodate big groups if you’re hosting a fun gathering for a celebration.

    Barleymash San Diego

Since this was my first time here, I went a little overboard when ordering. I felt like I had to try a little bit of everything! Don’t worry though. No food was wasted. Whatever we couldn’t eat was brought home to consume later.

    Barleymash Cocktails

First off, I love that they have a fun cocktail menu! Many of the drinks are references to the movie Anchorman, which is required watching for any local San Diegan. We tried the ‘I Love Lamp’ and ‘Veronica Corningstone’. Both were refreshing and delicious!

    The Afternoon Delight Cocktail

    The Afternoon Delight Cocktail

Afternoon Delight - Herradura Reposado Tequila, Pineapple, Jalapeno, Agave, Lime, and a Tajin Rim

    The Veronica Corningstone Cocktail

    The Veronica Corningstone Cocktail

Veronica Corningstone - Grey Goose Vodka, St. Germain, Lavender, Lemon, and Seltzer.

    Barleymash Menu Items

Now let’s talk food! The portion sizes here are well worth the money. You can easily share with another person or two for most of these items. Another reason it makes an excellent place for a group outing!

Featured Below are several of the menu items we enjoyed from appetizers to desserts!

    Shrimp Skillet

    Shrimp Skillet

Share Plate - Spicy Shrimp Skillet - Served in garlic chili butter, tequila, and wasabi cream with a side of herb focaccia bread. This was absolutely delicious and I appreciated the large portion of shrimp served with it.

    San Diego Iron Fries

    San Diego Iron Fries

Iron Fries - The San Diego - Red chili braised short ribs, pepper jack beer-cheese sauce, sour cream, spicy guacamole, and salsa fresca. These were huge and could definitely feed several people.

    Barleymac the Mash

    The Mash

Barleymacs - The Mash Mac & Cheese - Topped with ale-braised pork shoulder, bourbon-bbq sauce, fresh jalapenos, and crispy tobacco onions. So decadent and creamy. Multiple Barleymash employees recommended this dish and I can see why!

    Surf N Turf Burger

    Surf N Turf Burger

Between The Buns - Surf N Turf Burger - Grilled beef patty, cream cheese, anejo tequila n’ butter poached Maine lobster meat, baby arugula, whiskey caramelized onions, and white truffle aioli. All I can say is WOW! This is a seafood and burger lovers dream. Two thumbs up, would recommend. Just look at that lobster claw meat!

    Smores Cheesecake

    Smores Cheesecake

Dessert - Smores Cheesecake - This dessert has toasted marshmallow on top. That’s all you need to know. Just order it, you won’t regret it!
