Since opening their doors in South Park back in 2011, Buona Forchetta has quickly made a name for themselves when it comes to pizza restaurants in San Diego. Now they’ve expanded to Liberty Station with a similar concept Officine Buona Forchetta. Both places are founded by restaurateur Matteo Cattaneo and Italian native and Master Pizzaiolo Marcello Avitabile takes care of the glorious pizza ovens at the Liberty Station location.

I’ve slowly been putting together blogs on pizza places in the San Diego area so that I can eventually craft a master list for you, my readers! Since I started out on this adventure Officine Buona Forchetta is one that has topped my list for awhile so I’m very excited to finally share my dining experience with you.

First of all, let’s talk drinks and appetizers. Yes, this is a place for pizza, but you would be missing out if you ignored the other great items gracing their menu. For drinks my friend San Diego Food Girl and I went with the refreshing Kitchen Cocktail. It had vodka, strawberries, balsamic reduction, lemon juice and ginger beer. Basically if you want the perfect drink for a warm summer day, this is it!

For appetizers we decided to try a couple items. Let’s start with the Burrata Caprese. I don’t know about you but I LOVE burrata cheese. List this on your menu somewhere and I will be sure to order it. I appreciate that it’s served on a bed of basil and arugula with heirloom baby tomatoes so I feel less guilty about wanting to consume an entire ball of cheese. Who am I guiding….I feel no guilt about this. It was delicious!

This next appetizer is one that we were very curious about. It’s called Pizza In A Jar. How does one make pizza in a jar exactly? Well it’s fluffy fried dough balls slathered in san marzano sauce, basil, and stracciata. It really is like eating pizza out of a jar and I’m here for it!

Now let’s discuss the beautiful, creative, custom pizzas that they offer. When I found out that they can do fun custom shapes I was beyond excited. They made me a pizza in the shape of a star! I’m obsessed. Did you know that they can also do hearts? All you have to do is ask. It’s a great way to celebrate a special occasion like a birthday or anniversary. What better way to say “I love you'' than a heart shaped pizza?

Not only is the pizza cute but most importantly it’s delicious. I ordered the Sergio for my shining star creation. It has mozzarella di bufala, prosciutto, baby arugula, and shaved parmesan. One of my favorite pizza combos in existence.

Having devoured my pizza and appetizers believe it or not we still had room for dessert! We decided to order two to sample a little variety. The Cannoli and the other was a baked pear dessert with a light custard sauce. Personally I preferred the cannoli but the other dessert sure was a show stopper. It came with berries coated in gold!

In all seriousness though, I love Officine Buona Forchetta. It’s a solid restaurant with amazing pizza. If you haven’t been yet I highly recommend you pay them a visit!
