Full Moon Sushi San Diego
If you’re looking for an amazing Japanese Restaurant in the Gaslamp Quarter in San Diego, you will definitely want to pay a visit to Full Moon Sushi. Just like their sushi, the interior is beautiful. I loved the added elements of lamp posts and other Japanese themed details that transported me out of the Gaslamp Quarter and into a realm of delicious food.
I recommend starting your meal with one of their miso soups. I loved the tofu miso, but they also have a clam miso that I would be happy to try next time! Looking for a cocktail or two to try with your meal? They have an excellent variety of unique drinks. If you’re a fan of green tea I highly recommend their Matcha Martini. This item was not listed on the menu, but was a recommendation from our server. If you’re interested in trying it on your next visit just ask!

Another cocktail I would recommend is their refreshing Grapefruit cocktail. It’s the perfect compliment to all of the sushi rolls that we consumed, which as you will notice were plentiful!

After the miso soup we ordered a seared ahi tuna salad to share. Seared Ahi can be hit or miss depending on where you go. Thankfully the Ahi Tuna at Full Moon Sushi is perfect! The sear on the outside provides a complimentary crispness to the soft center of the tuna. The dressing wasn’t overpowering and coated everything just right!

Next up, we sampled a few of the Cold Dish items from their menu. The YellowTail Jalapeno Carpaccio was heavenly. Reminded me of a similar dish I had tried at Osetra Seafood & Steak Restaurant that had blown me away with it’s amazing flavors. Full Moon Sushi managed to create something similar to tantalize my tastebuds. It must be that Yuzu Citrus Soy Sauce!

Another cold dish we tried was the Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice. It has pan fried crispy rice topped with a delicious spicy tuna and serrano peppers. I’m going to tell you right now, you MUST order this if you go here. It was honestly my favorite thing we tried all evening. That says a lot because I enjoyed everything we ordered but something about this crispy rice dish won me over.

Now let’s move on to the main event...the sushi rolls! We tried so many amazing combinations it was hard to pick a favorite. So I’ll just start with their signature Full Moon Sushi Roll. It has crab meat, avocado, asparagus, shrimp, mushroom and onion with crunch dynamite on top.

Another tasty roll we ordered from the Signature section of their menu is the Eclipse Roll. It has crab meat, avocado, cucumber, asparagus, kampyo with seared salmon and white truffle oil. I have never had a sushi roll that featured truffle oil before and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. It wasn’t overpowering but was still a recognizable flavor profile that I really enjoyed.

Lastly we tried the Waxing Gibbous Roll. It has spicy tuna, scallion and cucumber with olive oil seared tuna, topped with serrano pepper. That seared tuna on top was heavenly! Such a beautiful flavor combo. Would recommend this one if you’re looking for a more traditional vibe.

To wrap up our dining experience the manager brought us a Mochi Ice Cream Sampler. Talk about presentation! This was such a beautiful way to present mochi. We had mango, green tea and strawberry flavors. My favorite was the mango!
