Date night is one of the things that I think keeps Jarod and I happy in our new marriage. It’s something we carried over from the early years in our relationship. No matter how busy our week gets, we always have a date night. It doesn’t always have to be out and about but I think when we do, it allows us to ignore the other distractions lurking at home.

One of our recent date nights was thanks to the wonderful people at Greystone Steak in the Gaslamp Quarter. If you’re looking for a highly rated and raved about Steakhouse in San Diego, this is definitely one of them. The ambiance is perfect for a quiet evening with the one you love.

When we walked in we were seated next to a lovely fireplace and started our date with a glass of cabernet.

Our server was very helpful and had great recommendations for everything that we ordered. To start we had a few appetizers. The Twist To Wild Boar which has crushed tomatoes, peppers, walla walla onions, pinot noir reduction and a touch of marinara. It also had a side of creamy polenta.

My favorite of the two appetizers was the Crispy Calamari. There are many wrong ways to do calamari, but I assure you Greystone knows the perfect way. It was deliciously crispy and I loved dipping it in the chipotle aioli sauce. Jarod agreed that this dish was a home run!

Next up was the salad. At this point I was so excited about the steaks arriving I had forgotten we had ordered it, but I’m so glad we did. They were very accommodating and split one serving onto two plates for us. Jarod and I often do this so that we can sample more of the menu.

The salad we ordered was the beautiful Organic Greys Tone. It had all the right elements such as Encinitas living lettuce, caramelized walnuts, bosc pear, Maytag farms blue cheese, stone ground lemon vinaigrette, and truffle croutons. From their salad ingredients alone you can tell that Greystone prides themselves on offering local and organic options that are high quality.

Then it was time for the main event! The steak. We both ordered the New York steak. Jarod and I often order the exact same thing, mostly because we always fear ordering something different and then wishing we had what the other one did. Is anyone else like this? FOMO with meals is a real thing. Especially when the other person knows theirs is better and doesn’t want to share. This has happened on many occasions. But not this evening!

Both of our steaks were cooked to perfection. We ordered them medium and it was the perfect amount of pink. There is nothing that upsets me more at a restaurant than an overcooked, rubbery steak. I wish I could say this hasn’t happened to me at steakhouses before but it has. At Greystone though you can trust that your steak is in good hands!

We ordered two side dishes with our steaks as well. The Brussels Sprouts and the Garlic Yukon Gold Mashed Potatoes. If you’ve been reading my blog for awhile now you know I LOVE mashed potatoes. If they are made just right, I will be a return customer for life. Well, Greystone Steak, you got me! These potatoes were light, fluffy, and buttery. I wish I had some right now as I’m writing this blog. Oh and don’t let me forget to mention the Brussels Sprouts because those were excellent as well. They had applewood bacon, dates, goat cheese and a balsamic fig glaze. Do you fear brussels sprouts due to a traumatic child dining experience? Fear no more! These were elevated, flavorful and had the right amount of crispiness.

Last but certainly not least we wrapped up our beautiful date night with dessert. They brought out this amazing chocolate cake that was decadent but still not too heavy after the meal we had. Once it was all said and done though, Jarod and I definitely took our time to walk around the neighborhood a little bit.

Greystone Steak was an amazing dining experience and I’m so happy we added it to our date night rotation. We will definitely be back again soon for the amazing wine, crispy calamari and juicy steaks!
