    Lagom Restaurant In La Jolla

UPDATE: Sadly, Lagom Balanced Food in La Jolla is now permanently closed.

Lagom Balanced Food in La Jolla is my new favorite restaurant in San Diego and I’m sure it’s going to be yours too! Take a peek at some of their menu items including lattes, smoothies, avocado toast and more! Bonus: Not only is their place aesthetically pleasing, but the food is amazing and the owners are the sweetest people you will ever meet. As soon as you walk in the doors you know this place is special.

I enjoyed speaking with both Joaquin and Karina the owners of Lagom Balanced Food. They have a passion for bringing their customers food that’s made with only the best ingredients and are well known for pastries without the guilt. They allowed me to take home one of their Chickpea Matcha Donuts and I was amazed at how delicious it was! If this is what healthy food can taste like, I’m on board! Karina has crafted all of these recipes with lots of love and it shows!

From their website: "Us at Lagom are 100% committed to the health of our clients. We seek to provide them with real, natural, nutritious, whole foods and ingredients. We believe that food is the basis to a happy, balanced life! Since without health we have nothing, and with health we can achieve everything, we seek that our ingredients contribute something to the organism of each and every person who visits us!"

Get Lost In What You Love - Neon Sign

First of all, I am not one to only seek out a place just because it’s cute or has cute looking food. In reality, I’ve encountered plenty of places that have a lovely aesthetic but the food was just meh. This is not Lagom Balanced Food. From the cute neon signs with quotes like “Chill Out Babe” to the beautiful plates they serve your food on, you can tell they paid attention to every last detail of their restaurant. Even as I write this I’m plotting the next time I can go back because I loved it so much.

    Lagom’s Drink Menu

Now, let’s discuss drinks. They have a selection of different lattes to try. We decided to try the Pink Lavender Latte and the Golden Milk. If you don’t like floral tasting drinks I wouldn’t recommend the Pink Lavender but I honestly love lavender so I thought it was excellent.

Jarod went with the Golden Milk since he’s very sensitive to caffeine. I had never had a Golden Milk Latte before but now I’m obsessed! Who knew that turmeric, ginger, cardamom and vanilla could taste so wonderful in a latte.

Next, Joaquin recommended we try one of their smoothies which lots of people go to them for in the area. I can see why! I went with the Strawberry Fields and I honestly think this was the best smoothie I have had in my entire life. It has strawberries, vanilla, cinnamon & nut butter of your choice. So simple, yet made perfectly. I wish I could get my smoothies at home to taste this good.

    Lagom’s Food Menu

First of all, I know that us millennials get a bad rap for spending too much money on frivolous things like avocado toast. But when it looks and tastes as good as Lagom’s, you will understand why we want to spend money on these things. It’s a work of art and they truly takes pride in the presentation of their creations.

We had the Classic Avo Toast and the Fit & Salmon. Don’t ask me to pick a favorite either because they were both excellent. The Avo Toast is anything but basic. It has avocado, sunflower seeds ,watermelon radish, chili flakes, & microgreens.

The Fit & Salmon has Smoked salmon, avocado, cucumber, capers, sesame, hemp seeds & microgreens. Loved the flavors on this toast!

Last, but not least, we had to try two of the items from the Mexican Style section. Their cook Toby seemed particularly excited for us to try these menu items, so I knew it was going to be good! We had their Chipotle Entomatadas and the Protein Chilaquiles.

The Chipotle Entomatadas are a unique dish you won’t find anywhere else! Think, enchiladas but the tortillas are made out of nopals! That’s what gives them this beautiful green color. Their served in a creamy chipotle sauce and stuffed with chicken and cheese. If you come here, please order these. They are truly delicious and unique.

These Protein Chilaquiles are some of the best I’ve had as well. It’s a dish that can easily go wrong if not prepared properly. The chips were crispy, the chicken was full of flavor and I loved the spicy habanero sauce on top. If you don’t like spice, don’t worry! They have 3 other sauce options you can choose from as well.
