Just in time for summer, North Italia has opened a new location at the One Paseo shopping center in Del Mar. If the amazing pizza and cocktails aren't enough to lure you in, perhaps their beautiful patio seating will. It's honestly the perfect summer date night location!
Jarod and I were able to attend a preview dining experience before they opened to the public and we got to try a bunch of different items off of their menu that is a bit varied compared to their Fashion Valley location. To kick things off we ordered a couple cocktails. I had the Ginger Blossom Margarita and Jarod ordered the The Quiet Italian Gentleman. Yes that’s the name of the drink! Rather fitting for him.

The margarita has ana maria tequila, fiorente elderflower, greenbar ginger, cucumber, and lime. It’s the perfect crisp and refreshing summer cocktail. The Quiet Gentleman has bulleit rye, carpano antica, campari, disaronno amaretto. I tried a sip and it’s a great choice if you love whiskey!

Now let’s talk appetizers! There were so many delicious sounding options but I couldn’t resist ordering their Chef’s Board. Isn’t it beautiful? It comes with prosciutto di parma, pecorino toscano, crescenza, grilled piquillo pepper, pesto zucchini, castelvetrano olive, marcona almond, fig mostarda, and grilled bread. I particularly loved the fig mostarda. At first glance it looks like a traditional fig jam but it has a little tang to it thanks to a mustard they add to it. Definitely a fan of unique flavors that just seem to work and this was one of them!

For our next course we had to try something from the pizza and main entrees section. They also have pasta which I didn’t get a chance to try this time around but look forward to going back for it in the future.
The pizza we went with is simply referred to as The Pig. This is because it’s topped with spicy pepperoni, soppressata, and italian sausage. A trifecta of greasy, juicy, deliciousness.

When it came to the entree we honestly had a difficult time deciding and asked our server what her favorite was. She recommended the Braised Short Rib and it was an excellent suggestion! It comes with beautiful heirloom carrots, swiss chard, and creamy mascarpone polenta. The perfect compliment to the tender and juicy short rib.

Last but not least we wrapped up our dining experience with a delicious dessert. We decided on the Hazelnut Torta for the grand finale and I’m so glad we did. It has nutella cream, hazelnut toffee, and salted caramel gelato. One of the best desserts I’ve had in awhile when dining out.
Thank you to North Italia for having us for your preview night. We enjoyed everything we ordered, the service was excellent, and we will definitely be back for round 2 soon!
