Osetra Seafood And Steak in San Diego

    Welcome To Osetra San Diego

As someone who grew up in Washington state, I’ll be the first to admit I’m a bit snobby when it comes to seafood. I don’t know what it is about the fish up there but it’s just the best! However, there have been a few places in San Diego that have wowed me and given me that perfect seafood experience I’ve grown to love.

    Osetra Seafood & Steak Gaslamp

One of them recently was Osetra Seafood & Steak in San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter. Mostly frequented by travelers visiting from out of town, this is a place even locals should aim to visit. It's some of the best seafood in the Gaslamp Quarter.

Jarod and I were invited to come in for a Chef’s tasting of a few different menu items and we were pleasantly surprised with everything they chose for us. To start we each ordered a cocktail. I went with the Piñata. Which was a flavor profile I love when it comes to craft cocktails. Sweet and spicy! It has azunia organic blanco tequila, blood orange, lime juice, and organic infused habanero agave.

Now, if you love old fashioneds, you will want to try Jarod’s cocktail pick. The Midnight Old Fashioned. Not only does it look cool with a pitch black hue but it tastes amazing! It has toki whiskey, chamomile syrup, angostura bitters, and of course charcoal to give it the midnight look.

The Bruschetta Appetizer from Osetra Seafood & Steak

To compliment our cocktails they brought out two different appetizers. The Bruschetta and the Yellowtail Carpaccio. The Bruschetta was pretty much what you would expect. It had diced tomatoes, parmigiano-reggiano and pesto basil olive oil. Very delicious! However the stand out star here was the Yellowtail Carpaccio. The flavors were out of this world! It’s served with with citrus slices, jalapeño, avocado, micro cilantro, & a sweet and spicy negiponzu sauce. This dish alone would keep me coming back here.

Next up, we have the main entrees. Although Osetra features both seafood and steak on their menu, they gave us two different fish dishes. Given how delicious the Yellowtail was I knew that these were going to be amazing as well. The chefs here definitely know how to incorporate the right flavors with these dishes.

The Chilean Sea Bass from Osetra Seafood & Steak
    The Chilean Sea Bass

We had the Chilean Sea Bass as well as the Ahi Tuna. Both were amazing and had very different flavor profiles which was nice since Jarod and I decided to share them both. The Sea Bass was served with fennel risotto, grilled asparagus, & a pomegranate reduction. Their risotto is also worth mentioning here because it was so creamy and full of flavor. I would definitely consider trying their Risotto entree on my next visit.

The Ahi Tuna from Osetra Seafood & Steak
    The Ahi Tuna

The Ahi Tuna was my favorite of the two dishes. It’s sesame seed crusted with wasabi mashed potatoes, ginger soy reduction, & tobiko caviar. Yes, you read that correctly. Wasabi mashed potatoes! These were life changing. Don’t get me wrong I loved the Ahi Tuna. But when you pair it with something magical like these potatoes it’s an amazing combination. I’m seriously contemplating creating my own recipe at home so I can enjoy these more often.

The Cannoli from Osetra Seafood & Steak

Lastly, we wrapped up our evening with dessert! We enjoyed sharing this beautiful cannoli made fresh in house. The filling was super creamy and a bit rich but it was the perfect way to close out our evening.

If you’re looking for amazing seafood in San Diego you will definitely want to give Osetra a try. This month would be the perfect opportunity since they are hosting a 6 Course Nickel & Nickel Winemaker’s Dinner on August 31st. It starts at 7 PM and will feature live music, and your entry ticket will also enter you into a raffle for a chance to win a round trip ticket and stay in Napa Valley!
