Are you ready to discover your new favorite drink? Meet The Rapunzel - Lavender Lemonade Cocktail. This drink is a refreshing and unique twist on a classic lemonade cocktail, with a touch of lavender that adds a floral and fragrant flavor. It’s like sipping on a secret garden in a glass!

A side view of the Rapunzel - Lavender Lemonade Cocktail. It's a light purple color with bright purple glitter ice cubes. The garnish is a wheel of lemon and slice of star fruit. Purple and yellow flowers are scattered on the table around it.

The Rapunzel - Lavender Lemonade Cocktail is perfect for any occasion. You can enjoy it on a sunny day, at an outdoor gathering, or at a special event. The delicate purple color of the drink makes it ideal for themed parties, such as fairy-tale or princess-themed ones. Plus, it’s super easy to make with just a few ingredients and steps.

This Lavender Lemonade Cocktail is part of a trio of Spring Time Disney Princess Inspired Cocktails I created for a collaboration with Disney and Travel blogger Kayla Freitas, also known as Travel Momoirs. She is seriously wonderful and you should definitely give her a follow!

I chose Rapunzel to represent this drink because the purple hue reminded me of her dress from the movie Tangled. I also used star fruit as a garnish to mimic the lanterns that light up the sky for her birthday.

If you’re looking for ideas on what to pair with this refreshing drink I recommend my Sweet & Savory Cheeseboard or for an entree this delicious recipe for Fresh Rosemary Pork Chops with Garlic. You can also check out the other two cocktails The Mulan - Cherry Blossom Cocktail and The Alice - Coconut Creamsicle Cocktail.

    🍋 Exploring the Key Ingredients

The key ingredients that give The Rapunzel - Lavender Lemonade Cocktail its unique flavor and aroma are:

A shot of the ingredients for the Rapunzel - Lavender Lemonade Cocktail recipe. From left to right: a small wooden bowl of culinary lavender, club soda in a bottle, a fresh lemon, a bottle of vodka, and a small container of the purple edible glitter.

    • Vodka: adds a smooth and subtle kick to the cocktail without overpowering the other flavors.
    • Fresh Lemon Juice: provides a tangy and refreshing taste that balances the sweetness of the lavender syrup.
    • Lavender Simple Syrup: Adds a delicate floral flavor to the cocktail and gives it a beautiful light purple color. My version also happens to be sugar-free so it keeps this cocktail low-carb!
    • Club Soda: Adds some fizz and lightness to the cocktail, making it a refreshing spring or summer drink.
    • Edible Purple Glitter (Optional): This adds a touch of magic and sparkles to create the purple ice cubes and can be sprinkled on top of the cocktail to add an extra pop of color. I found it on Amazon.

See the recipe card below for quantities.

    Making the Lavender Syrup

For this particular cocktail, I knew I wanted to keep it low-carb so it was still diabetic-friendly as well as delicious so I made the lavender simple syrup myself! You can visit my recipe for Sugar-Free Lavender Simple Syrup for details on how to make it at home. I promise it’s so easy and tastes amazing regardless of dietary restrictions.

    Making the Glitter Ice Cubes

This was by far one of my favorite elements of bringing this magical concoction to life. In an effort to make sure this drink had a pretty purple hue, I started scouring the internet for ideas on how to make drinks change colors without food coloring. That’s when I stumbled across this edible purple glitter on Amazon. They actually sell lots of other colors too. I honestly want them all for my pantry now!

Making these gorgeous ice cubes is really simple. Use about ⅛ teaspoon of the glitter and mix it with 2 cups water in a measuring cup. Pour it into your favorite ice cube tray. This is the one I used. Then let it set for at least 4-5 hours in the freezer. Once they're done you have beautiful sparkly purple ice cubes for your drinks!

Helpful Hint: For the best flavor, use freshly squeezed lemon juice instead of bottled lemon juice. This will provide a bright, tangy flavor that complements the floral notes of the lavender syrup. Additionally, be sure to strain the lemon juice to remove any pulp or seeds that may affect the texture of the cocktail. I use a simple citrus juicer which helps solve that problem!

Serving The Rapunzel - Lavender Lemonade Cocktail

Once you've prepared The Rapunzel, it's time to serve it up! Start by placing a few of your homemade edible glitter ice cubes in a hurricane glass. Next, pour your cocktail over the ice and watch as the glitter sparkles in the light. For an extra touch of elegance, garnish the drink with a lemon wheel and a star fruit wedge inspired by the lanterns in Tangled.

Finally, sprinkle a pinch of edible purple glitter over the top of the drink to give it that extra pop of color and magic. I guarantee you will be delighted by the gorgeous presentation and delicious taste of this lavender lemonade cocktail.

    Substitutions

If you need to make some changes to the ingredients of The Rapunzel - Lavender Lemonade Cocktail, here are some suggestions:

    • Vodka - You can use gin or white rum instead of vodka for a different flavor profile.
    • Lemon Juice - You can use lime juice instead of lemon juice for a slightly different citrus flavor.
    • Club Soda - You can use sparkling water instead of club soda if you prefer.
    • Lavender Syrup - If you don’t have culinary-grade lavender buds to make the simple syrup, you can use lavender extract or lavender essential oil (be sure to use food-grade oils only and use them VERY sparingly).
    • Alcohol-Free - To make this recipe alcohol-free, omit the vodka and increase the amount of club soda or sparkling water.

    Variations

If you want to try some different versions of The Rapunzel - Lavender Lemonade Cocktail, here are some ideas:

    • Citrus Twist - Use different types of citrus juice, such as grapefruit or orange, to change up the flavor profile.
    • Herbaceous Twist - Substitute the lavender syrup with other flavored syrups, such as rosemary or thyme, to create an herbaceous twist.
    • Fresh Herbs - Add fresh herbs, such as mint or basil, to the cocktail for an extra layer of flavor.

    Equipment

To make The Rapunzel cocktail, you'll need a few basic tools that are probably already in your kitchen. Here's what you'll need:

    • Cocktail shaker - If you don't have a cocktail shaker, you can use a mason jar with a lid. My favorite cocktail shaker is the one from Elevated Craft. It’s perfect if you like making cocktails at home.
    • Jigger - If you don't have one of these you can use a measuring cup with ounce measurements.
    • Citrus juicer or reamer - No citrus juicer or reamer? You can squeeze the lemons by hand.
    • Ice cube tray - If you don't have an ice cube tray, you can use a silicone mold or a plastic container. But keep in mind that the size should fit your glass.
    • Hurricane Glass - You can use a different glass such as a high ball or collins glass instead.

    Top tip

Don't skimp on the quality of the ingredients to get the best result. One key to making this recipe well is to use fresh ingredients, especially lemon juice and lavender.

    FAQ

What is lavender lemonade made of?

Lavender lemonade typically consists of a combination of fresh lemon juice, lavender simple syrup, water, and ice. The lavender simple syrup is made by simmering water, sugar, and dried lavender buds together, and then straining out the solids. This recipe includes additional ingredients like club soda and edible glitter to add to the magical vibes of this cocktail.

What is the best alcohol to mix with lemonade?

There are several types of alcohol that can be mixed with lemonade, and the best one largely depends on personal preference. Some popular options include:

Vodka: This is a neutral spirit that pairs well with the tartness of lemonade and allows the other flavors to shine through.

Gin: The botanicals in gin can complement the citrus flavors in lemonade, resulting in a refreshing and complex drink.

Tequila: Mixing tequila and lemonade creates a twist on the classic margarita, with the tartness of the lemonade balancing out the sweetness of the tequila.

Rum: The sweetness of rum can balance the tartness of lemonade, making for a smooth and easy-to-drink cocktail.
