Well, the weekend is almost over and I couldn’t close it out without writing about my experience at the San Diego Bay Wine & Food Festival. I had the pleasure of not only attending the Fish Taco TKO, but also the Grand Tasting Event. Both were amazing events perfect for any San Diegan who has a love for food and alcohol.
With my Media Pass I was granted early entry and if I had to do this event on my own I would definitely splurge for the VIP pass. Being able to access the festival early enabled us to skip the crazy line and enjoy the event before it got too crowded. As the day progressed more and more people started to show up. Lines got longer and some places even ran out of food. Definitely the sign of a successful event though.
Food wise some of my favorite dishes were all the seafood based bites. The scallops from the Water Grill were not only beautiful but super flavorful.
Oh, and did I mention that there was amazing cheese everywhere? I don’t know about you, but I LOVE fancy cheese and wine. I could probably eat it for dinner every night if it was socially acceptable. There was a truffle cheese from Cypress Grove that I can’t stop thinking about and need to buy a large brick of it ASAP.
As for drinks there were SO many options! Not only was there amazing wine, but whiskey, beer, tequila….you name it, they had it at this event! Glenfiddich killed it with their pop up bar in the middle of the event venue. Inside the dome was a nicely stocked bar, a sensory smell experience to enhance the flavors of the whiskey, and a really cool visual projection on the ceiling.
Word has it that there was also a hidden speakeasy that had a doorway hidden in the port-o-potties. I have an irrational fear of using those so I totally overlooked it! I’m bummed because I saw posts from other people on Instagram showing what it looked like and it seemed like a pretty cool experience. Oh well, I’ll keep a better eye out next time!
Another thing I have to mention is that all of the vendors working the event were so nice and friendly. I hate to be the person annoying people with my camera, but every time I asked someone if I could take a picture of them to post on my blog they were always happy to oblige.
If you’re a foodie in San Diego, it can be overwhelming when it comes to trying to decide on a place to eat for date night, a special occasion, or simply because you don’t want to cook. But thanks to the San Diego Bay Wine & Food Festival I have learned about so many great restaurants that we have here locally that I might not have known about before.
I love to try new food and new restaurants, so I think it’s safe to say I have a list a mile long with spots to check out over the next few months. The Grand Tasting Event was such a fun experience and am so thankful I was able to attend this year. Hopefully I can check it out again next year!
