Have you heard the news? Smart girls (and guys) eat fiber! At least that’s what I’ve been learning as of late. It all started with an episode of the Skinny Confidential, Him & Her, Podcast where Lauryn and Michael interview Tanya Zuckerbrot, MS, RD the founder of the F-Factor Diet. Have you ever listened to a podcast and felt like the information you were listening to was hand picked just for you? That was this episode for me.
If you read my last blog post updating you all on the recent events in my life, then you know that my health is something I’ve struggled with a lot lately. Like many of you, my intentions are always to do right by myself and eat healthy and exercise regularly but sometimes life happens or we just simply fall off the wagon. That has been me time and time again. I’m guilty of looking for “quick fixes” to lose weight fast, and I’ve found a few things that worked however it was always temporarily.
My goal for 2018 is to learn as much as I can about nutrition and how to properly fuel my body without depriving myself and making a diet change that’s sustainable for the long haul. That’s the key! How many times have you tried to count calories or cut back on certain foods (Ex: carbs) only to feel tired and constantly hungry? I HATE feeling hungry. I can’t concentrate and then it shortly turns into hanger. So when I learned that the F-Factor diet focuses on incorporating more fiber into your diet to make sure you feel full and satisfied between meals I instantly wanted to learn more. Plus, did I mention you can drink alcohol on this diet? Yes please!
The F-Factor Diet is more than just your average diet, it’s a complete lifestyle focused on eating healthy for a longer, happier, and healthier life. With F-Factor the idea is to add more fiber into your diet through healthy carbs, while teaching you about where to find good sources of fiber and other nutrients. Tonya’s whole motto is “Fiber and protein at every meal makes losing weight no big deal!”
Now I could sit here and go into detail about the science behind F-Factor and why fiber is so important, but if you’re really curious, start with this podcast episode and then order the F-Factor Diet book off of Amazon. I’m only half-way through the book and I have learned so much about the science of nutrition! I feel armed with the knowledge to start making healthier choices for my body.
Starting this morning I went full force into what is called Step 1. When starting the F-Factor diet, Step 1 is important to get your body used to boosting your fiber intake while teaching you how to rely less on unhealthy carbs like white bread and rice. Instead you will learn all about these amazing GG Crackers and why they are the most fiber filled and nutritious cracker on the market that will help you feel full without making you gain weight. Are they the tastiest crackers out there? Not so much. But when I eat them with something like peanut butter I’m full and don’t feel disgusting afterwards.
Now the beauty of this whole lifestyle diet change is that after Step 2 you add more carbs back into your diet, including alcohol. This is great because you don’t have to feel like you’re depriving yourself of your favorite foods. I can still enjoy potatoes, chocolate and tacos. That’s a win! Once you reach your ideal weight you move on to Step 3 which is considered maintenance mode. You incorporate more carbs and favorite foods back into your diet all while still maintaining your healthy weight loss.

No longer do I want to feel frustrated by the number on the scale and I no longer want to feel like the only way to lose weight is with a crazy juice cleanse or by starving myself. If this is you too, then I suggest you check out some of the recipes I’m going to share here that will help you start incorporating more fiber and nutritious ingredients into your daily routine as well. Cheers to good health and Tanya Zuckerbrot’s F-Factor Diet!
