Spill The Beans Coffee & Bagels

I’ll admit I don’t find myself venturing off to the Gaslamp Quarter very often for coffee but since my recent visit to Spill The Beans Coffee & Bagels I might change that! They’re right next door (and part of) the neighboring restaurant Smoking Gun which allows them to serve alcohol. I find most stand-alone coffee shops won’t go out of their way to get a liquor license but it works out quite nicely since they are attached to a bar. As for their coffee they exclusively serve Dark Horse Coffee Roasters. Yum!

Jarod had to try the Irish Coffee! During the holidays it’s a staple among his family and a tradition happily carried on outside the season as well. It’s safe to say that Spill The Beans makes a solid Irish Coffee and it passed the Octon test!

If you’re looking for something to put an extra pep in your step I also recommend their Blondie Mocha on Ice. It’s white chocolate, brown sugar-macadamia syrup, espresso and you can sub milk for their macadamia milk. At least that’s what I did. I don’t have an intolerance to dairy but if I can find a tasty substitute that’s usually what I will order.

As for their breakfast menu I couldn’t help but try a couple items. Not sure about you, but I usually like to scope out a places menu on Instagram before I go to see what they have to offer. The morning I went here they had posted this amazing bagel! The cream cheese is berry lavender with rosemary and it’s my new obsession. When I was younger I used to be weirded out by anything edible that had lavender in it and I’m not sure why because it’s one of my favorite flavors now!

They make the cream cheese in house so you know it’s special. You can pick the flavor of bagel you want and they recommended the pear, cranberry, vanilla and cinnamon one. It was an excellent suggestion and I would happily order this combo again. Plus the bagels are scratch-made and so fresh and I'm secretly wishing I could buy the cream cheese in a container to take home!

Want something more substantial to start your day? Their breakfast sandwiches are an excellent option as well. I had to try The San Diego which comes on a homemade sweet bun, fried egg, thick cut peppered bacon, pepper jack and American cheeses with a flavor packed cayenne aioli.

Overall, Spill The Beans is the perfect casual breakfast spot in the Gaslamp Quarter that is worth the trip for their delicious coffee and bagels! Thanks for having me and I look forward to coming back again soon.
