No, you didn’t read the title of this blog post incorrectly. Spoiled Vegans is the newest Vegan restaurant in San Diego for those of us that aren’t vegan. Might sound like a weird concept, but after speaking with the owner Todd Anderson about where this idea came about I learned that he wanted to create a place where he could introduce those that weren’t vegan to vegan food.

As someone who is not vegan or vegetarian I was intrigued to try it for myself. I do find it difficult to get excited about vegan food unless I make it myself at home because it’s often so bland or lacks any creativity. If you go to a restaurant and the only vegan item they have is a salad, that’s pretty boring.

Enter Spoiled Vegans with the cure for boring vegan food! Tucked away inside Red Hat Coffee in downtown San Diego, you might miss this place if you’re not searching for it. However, this place is worth seeking out! Whether you want something sweet or savory for breakfast they have it all.

One item I had to try to believe it was the Waffle Dog. You can pick your “sausage” flavor from the following options: Chipotle, Apple Sage, or Original. Todd recommended the Apple Sage and I have to say I was blown away at the flavors in this. I honestly paused halfway through eating it because I thought I was eating real sausage.  Top top things off they serve it with a variety of unique dipping sauces like butterscotch and maple mustard. The maple mustard was so good I want to try and make it myself at home now!

The 16th & Island Vegan Breakfast Sandwich

The other menu item I tried was the 16th & Island Breakfast Sandwich. It has a fried “egg”, vegan cayenne cheddar cheese, maple pepper “bacon”, smoked “turkey”, fresh veggies and garlic aioli. Then it’s sandwiched between too fluffy waffles. Another home run! All of these ingredients are vegan but so flavorful and they perfectly complemented each other. I would eat this every morning no questions asked. If you had given me this sandwich and not told me it was vegan I probably would not have noticed.

So whether you’re vegan or non-vegan looking to step out of your comfort zone, Spoiled Vegans is a must try! After eating here you will feel GOOD! Something we all need more of these days. Thank you Todd for having me! Can’t wait to come back and try more of the menu soon.
