Have you been to Steamy Piggy on Convoy Street in Kearny Mesa yet? If not, let me fill you in on this adorable spot that serves up fresh bao buns, fried rice, dumplings and more! I don't know about you but I love trying new restaurants and escaping the day to day routine of dining out at the same place all the time. Thankfully San Diego is packed with amazing restaurants and little hidden gems just waiting to be discovered.

    Steamy Piggy On Convoy Street

Honestly I had never heard of Steamy Piggy before until Jarod and I were driving around Kearny Mesa one day. Since Convoy Street is known to be packed with amazing restaurants it can be easy to overlook a place. We drove by and I noticed the adorable little piggy logo on the outside of the building as well as the inviting outdoor patio. This is where we chose to sit on our visit. It was a beautiful day and thankfully shaded so the sun wasn't beating down on us. I'm a close relative of Casper the friendly ghost so I try to stay out of the sun when I can.

We started things off with a few of their cocktails. They weren't very expensive but they also weren't very big. The real bang for your buck here is with their fresh lemonades! We tried the mango lemonade and it was super refreshing.

Next up, we ordered several items off the menu so we could sample a little bit of everything. Our choices were the Char Siu Fried-Rice, Piggy Bao buns, Steamy BaoZi, and the Salt & Pepper Chicken. All of them were delicious but I think my favorite thing of them all was the Char Siu Fried-Rice. Honestly it was probably the best fried rice I’ve had in a REALLY long time. It was packed with flavor and not overcooked. I could eat this everyday!

Another favorite were the Steamy BaoZi. These giant dumplings were filled with pork and chives and came out in a bamboo serving tray to keep the steam trapped until we unveiled them at our table. These dumplings take a little bit longer than everything else for them to make, but are totally worth the wait!

All in all we had a great experience at Steamy Piggy and I’m looking forward to going back for round 2 so I can try more of the dumplings and perhaps some of their noodles next time!
