Making pizza at home has become one of my favorite pastimes and this Ultimate Homemade Pizza Sauce is a necessary ingredient to make my pizzas pop with fresh flavors. Be sure to keep this recipe bookmarked because it’s a critical component for several pizza recipes I’ll be adding to my blog soon.
The first thing to keep in mind when making this recipe is that fresh herbs make all the difference! There is just something about fresh oregano and basil that really boosts the flavor in this pizza sauce. Plus, NO weird mystery ingredients you can’t pronounce. You know exactly what’s in here.
Many people prefer to simmer their sauce for hours, but let’s be honest, ain’t nobody got time for that! This will take less than an hour to make and will provide you with enough sauce to store in the fridge or freezer for future use.
The Ultimate Homemade Pizza Sauce
*Yields About 3 Cups*
Ingredients:
1 28 oz Can of Crushed Tomatoes
1 Shallot (Diced)
2 Tbs. Olive Oil
2 Tbs. Fresh Oregano (Chopped & Stems Removed)
2 Tbs. Fresh Basil (Chopped & Stems Removed)
3 Cloves Minced Garlic
½ Tsp. Red Pepper Flakes
1 Tsp. Salt
½ Tsp. Black Pepper
Directions:
Start with a medium saucepan set to medium heat. Add the olive oil, diced shallot and red pepper flakes. Cook for about minutes, stirring when needed. Next add the garlic and continue to cook for one additional minute.
Then add in the crushed tomatoes, fresh oregano, basil, salt and pepper. Adjust the heat to medium low and let the sauce simmer for 30 minutes. Make sure to taste the sauce and adjust the seasonings to your preference.
Use the sauce right away for your pizza or let it cool and store in mason jars or any other air tight container.
